Performance, recording and long-running musical collaborations across genres.

A drummer’s sense of time.
A composer’s sense of story.
Helgi Sv. Helgason is an Icelandic composer, drummer and producer whose work grows out of rhythm, improvisation and an unusually broad musical vocabulary. He began playing drums as a child, later studied at FÍH in Reykjavík and at the Rhythmic Music Conservatory in Copenhagen. His musical life has moved through jazz, funk, afrobeat, reggae, free improvisation, Balkan music, electronics, studio production, theatre, dance, advertising and film. He began working with recording, programming and electronic sound at a young age and developed a studio practice that combines live performance, tactile sound, detailed programming and sound design. That combination now sits at the centre of his work for picture.
